Glass walls give uninterrupted views of Royal Victoria Dock while potted plants and beautiful artefacts liberally placed around Nakhon Thai's two open-plan floors hint at an exoticism mirrored in the fantastic food. The oasis spreads outside on to the waterfront where you can relax in the fresh air surrounded by mini palm trees and pretend the Thames Gateway is really the South China Sea.

On Friday and Saturdays nights, live music and candlelight create a rather romantic atmosphere. A vast menu details authentic and original dishes from all over Thailand. The talking point, its worth knowing, is the lobster curry - made fresh every day. Other bestsellers include pad Thai, green chicken curry and mussaman lamb. Delicious!

• Graprao talay - stir fried mixed seafood in fresh basil leaves, chilli and green peppercorn
• Siam sweet and sour pork - sweet and sour Thai style stir fried pork with onion, cucumber, tomato, bell pepper and pineapple
• Lamb and herbs - stir fried sliced lamb with a spicy coconut sauce with baby aubergine
• Thai pancake- coconut flakes wrapped in a pandan leaf and served warm with vanilla ice cream
