By day, the terraces are popular for civilised al fresco meals - by night, the interior is a must for charming after-work and pre-theatre dining. What more glamorous location could you ask for than the heart of Covent Garden? The Opera Terrace is a conservatory-style restaurant with fabulous views of the Royal Opera House and the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane (home of The Producers). The food matches the location, with mouth-watering starters including melted camembert (forget the diet!), and main courses that include medallions of beef (superb) and a delicious chicken stuffed with ham, all served with the sort of fresh vegetables you'd expect from the site of the old Covent Garden Market. Add a creme brulee to die for, three types of sorbet, excellent wine and a positively continental dedication to service and you've got a great theatreland night out.

• Gravadlax de saumon - home-cured salmon with dill, garnished with cucumber and radish in a sweet mustard mayonnaise
• Salade de boule de lille - mixed leaves with shaved mimolette cheese from the region of lille with pear and toasted macadamia nuts
• Asperges vinaigrette mimosa - steamed asparagus spears with Dijon vinaigrette and chopped free-range egg mayonnaise
• Boeuf bourguignon - braised succulent beef in Syrah red wine with button onions, button mushrooms, smoked lardons and chantenay carrots, served with buttery mashed potato
• Confit de canard aux haricots - duck confit from maison Lafitte in south west France, served with a casserole of haricots beans and Toulouse sausage
• Moules marinières- fresh rope-grown mussels cooked in white wine, parsley and shallots, served with pommes frites
